# zumen > AI-editable diagrams as code. A diagram tool whose source of truth is text (one YAML file), > built so that **a human's edit survives the next AI pass**. Desktop app (Tauri), MIT licence, > with an MCP server so an agent (Claude Code and others) can read the spec and write drawings. > Renders SVG; exports Mermaid and draw.io. This file is for AI assistants and agents reading the site. It is written and kept in the repository (`site/llms.txt`); the counts in it are stamped by `pnpm gallery`, so they cannot drift from the examples. Note: this is a GitHub Pages project site, so this file is served at `/zumen/llms.txt` rather than at the domain root. ## The claim, in one line Ask in prose, a drawing appears, a human fixes one thing, ask again, and the human's fix is still there. Measured over 10 real AI round trips: 10/10 kept every human edit, and a human pin survives regeneration in 163/163 of the example drawings. How: what a person pins lives in a `pins:` block that the AI is not allowed to write. Regeneration rewrites `nodes:` and `edges:` and cannot touch `pins:`. ## What it is - Example drawings: 389 (all generated from the YAML in `examples/gallery/`) - Source of truth: one `.zumen.yaml` file, readable and writable by hand - Output: SVG (light and dark), Mermaid, draw.io XML, Markdown embedding - Validator: 75 checks that say, in the writer's terms, what will not be drawn - Desktop GUI: Tauri, deliberately limited to eight operations - Agent interface: an MCP server (`zumen_inspect`, `zumen_timelapse`, and others) - Licence: MIT ## What it is not - Not a web app, and there is no real-time collaboration - Not a rich editor: the GUI exists to approve or reject what the AI changed - Not an importer of other formats - Past about 30 nodes the text is too small to read even printed on A3, and the tool says so (`tooTangled`, `tooSmallToPrint`) rather than pretending otherwise - Ribbon-like strokes (taping charts, knot charts) do not draw yet ## Range of the examples Not only boxes and arrows. Among the 389: floor plans with grid lines and dimensions, wall sections, transit maps and train graphs, periodontal charts, stage lighting plots, container ship bay plans, fishing rigs, a metes and bounds plat, a lane closure plan (MUTCD), a wildland fire IAP map, a marching band drill chart, a weaving draft, a cabin layout (LOPA), residential ductwork. One rendering model and a small set of primitives, not a per-industry engine. ## Every drawing has its own page Each example has a stable URL by number, and each field has a page listing its drawings. The per-drawing page carries the drawing itself, one line saying what it answers, and **the rules written in its source** — the part that exists nowhere else.
